It is always great to spend a couple of hours losing yourself in art, and it can be restorative whether doing it alone or with a group of friends. Over twenty years ago, a group of my work buddies got together to have some laughs and paint. We had so much fun that it quickly became a necessary sanity-saving outlet for us, so don’t be afraid to dive in and have some fun! To this day we continue our tradition, however some in our group have taken this a step further to become gallery artists, so you never know where your art will take you!
However, you don’t have to be an artist to start an art group. You don’t have to spend big bucks to start an art group. I’m going to give you a jump start on ideas that you can draw from, and will add things as my group tinkers with more ideas (or as I remember more of the things we’ve done over the years!).
For my group, this is a creative outlet. It gives us an escape from our work-life and the burdens and stresses we carry around with us. Sometimes just a couple of us get together to work on our own projects and other times we’ll do a group project with a theme. We enjoy the traditional arts, such as painting, watercolors, etc, but for this page I am listing group projects we have done. These are mostly what I call one-and-done, meaning two-four hours and you have accomplished something. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions!
Now go grab a few friends and start having fun!

Neurographic Art
Neurographic Art is a cathartic, meditative process that allows our unconscious mind to emerge. It is often used as a form of art therapy, and it was introduced to my art group by one of our members who is a therapist. However, we do this art form more as a moment of zen-like contemplation and relaxation. You may delve into the uses of this art form if you wish, but for art day purposes, I will relay how we do it.
