String Art Painting

Project Level: Intermediate

What you will need:

Acrylic Paints-start with 3 colors

String-cut in 12-24 inch lengths

Canvas

Large paint brush

Box with sides cut down to 2-4 inches in height (this is where you will paint the canvas)

Bowls for secondary paint colors

Instructions:

Please note, this project uses quite a bit of paint for the base layer, particularly if using a large canvas. You can pour directly onto the canvas and spread it with a brush. To protect your table surface, work in the box.

Spread a layer of paint over entire canvas. It should be thick.

Dip a piece of string into a new color, allow excess to drip back into the bowl. Lightly holding the string, start at one end of the canvas and allow the string to drag through the base layer of paint, using your hand to direct the design. Either complete the swath across the canvas or slowly raise the string until you are clear of the canvas. Repeat process with both secondary colors.

You do not have to start at the edge every time, and can do smaller areas instead, but be mindful that wherever the string touches or drags, it will leave paint!
