An Arts and Crafts Mystery Series
featuring Alex Montgomery and the Creative Workshop
Alex Montgomery was high powered political strategist from Philadelphia. After dodging a bullet—quite literally— when a gun went off during a campaign rally, Alex decided that enough was enough. It was time to leave that life behind. She bought and renovated an old school building in the small town of Flat Rock Falls and opened The Creative Workshop, an arts and crafts collective. The Workshop houses art studios for a dozen artists and has become a community center for painting, drawing, pottery, photography, needlework, quilting, and scrapbooking classes.
Nowadays, instead of striving for perfection as she used to, Alex lives in paint-stained jeans, bites her nails, rationalizes the amount of chocolate she eats, drinks an insane amount of coffee, and would rather dig her hands in pottery clay than attend a social function. And instead of dealing with insufferable political blowhards, she now has an eccentric circle of artist friends and a one-hundred-pound dog named Baxter to keep life interesting.
Alex’s Aunt Claudia owns the Main Street Cafe, and her cousin, Jack, is the local police chief. Once cleared through official channels, Alex occasionally lends Jack a hand, putting her computer and research skills to good use. But when it comes to murder, Alex grows restless with the background work and inserts herself into the active investigations. Jack tries to rein her in, but knowing she’s a bit willful, he can only hope she doesn’t go off half-cocked and get into too much trouble. They may butt heads at times, but they prove to be a formidable crime-solving team.
